The two same guards stood there smoking, like permanent fixtures. One glanced at me briefly as I pushed through the door. My steps were unintentionally heavy in the deserted corridor.
There was no place for me in the room as expected. Several strange faces looked up as I entered and hastily exited. By habit I resorted to the common room that I had kept to myself several times before. Thankfully no one was there.
I sat down and felt the full extent of my fatigue that came more from inactivity than anything else. The surprisingly scorching sunlight irritated me, so I let down the blinds.
Alone I was again.
